A review of the new iPhone 4
The new iPhone 4 from Apple is about to hit the shelves, with a huge amount of interest worldwide.
Is this highly anticipated handset about to become the most popular phone ever. Lets take a look at the design to start. Unlike previous updates on the original iPhone, this model sees not only changes under the bonnet but also on the cosmetic side. The overall measurements of 115.2 x 58.6 x 9.3mm see the width of the handset become slightly narrower than its predecessor, this is also thanks to the re design seeing the formerly curved edges replaced by flatter sides. The handset weighs in at 137 grammes, just 2 grammes heavier than the 3GS. The screen on the iPhone 4 is arguably the best currently available. This new “Retina Display” boasts a staggering resolution of 960 x 640 pixels and displays an amazing 326 pixels per inch. To put this into perspective, this figure is a staggering 78 per cent of what is offered on the iPads 9.5 inch screen. The name of the screen is so called as the pixel specification is supposedly higher than what the human eye can actually detect. The screen itself measures 3.5″ diagonally and once again supports the popular multi touch system, allowing for handy features such as pinch and zoom. The colour statistic are something that have been greatly improved too, with the 800:1 contrast ratio quadrupling what was offered on the 3GS. Apple have chosen to use the same A4 chip that is found in the iPad to power everything along on the iPhone 4. Despite its predecessor being incredibly quick, this is yet again an improvement. Another sensor has also joined the ranks alongside the accelerometer, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor and compass. Named the three axis gyroscope, this detects the pitch, roll and yaw of the device, allowing developers to develop more responsive and life like games for the handset. With regards to multimedia facilitys, everything has also been upped a level as you would expect. The video camera facility can capture High Definition footage at a resolution of 720P. A secondary VGA camera is also fitted on the front of the handset, allowing for not only self potraits but also Apples “Face Time” calls, or how it is more commonly known, Video calling. The camera boasts a resolution of 5 million pixels and is accompanied by an LED flash along with geo tagging. After so much hype surrounding this handset, it seems that the wait may actually be worthwhile. A gorgeous look coupled with a screen that is simply jaw dropping ensure that along with the packed feature list, the iPhone 4 could well prove to be the best phone available anywhere.
