Does anyone knows about John Robert Powers, talent agency, and their techniques to scout for young talent?
I took my daughter in Miami for a “so called” audition for major TV/modeling relating to Disney and Nickelodeon. We attended a presentation where this tallent scouts , one of them from California explained the incredible jump into the “celebrity life stile our families could access if our kids ended up selected for the casting. The kids did a camera test, I was told in particular that my daughter looked very interesting for print work and possible for starting couchig training in singing ( she never sang to them). What sounded fishy for me was the very intense remarkes they made as of making hte kids earn 15 grands a week, suddenly driving a hummer and moving to a mansion in beverly hills ( those were the promises, and of course that made the kids very interested) A brochure was given to us a s informative, there was a list of training and prices the least expensive was 2,000 for several weeks…. for more info type john robert powers in yahoo search…sounds like scam to me.
JRP is a SCAM. Legitimate talent/modeling agencies NEVER charge a fee. (Actors know they pay for their own classes.) Modeling agencies teach models how to walk. No fees charged, tthe reason is: When models book jobs, agency take their commission off the top!
John Robert Powers has not been reputable since the 1960s. It is a scam, that takes money from “starry-eyed,” young girls and their parents, that the girls have no potential to EVER work as a model or actor. JRP is not a school to study acting. It is not a school you can put on an acting resume. Find a real acting school in your city for your daughter. Call the community colleges and professional theaters in your city and ask for recommendations on acting teachers and acting schools. STAY AWAY from JRP.

JRP survives, on the reputation of the original owner, John Robert Powers. In his day, he was the TOP modeling agency in New York City. His models were on the covers of EVERY fashion magazine. Mr. Powers is dead. I think JRP is a franchise and not taken seriously by anyone in the acting or fashion industry. Anyone with money can open a JRP franchise, with or without ethics!

If you want your daughter to act call the universities and ask the theater dept. to recommend acting schools/teachers. The fashion industry is in NYC and Paris, not anywhere else in America. The acting and modeling jobs are HERE!
