Concept is the biggest feature of Nokia Aeon
We know Nokia loves showing off its wares in movies and music videos but it looks like the Finnish handset slinger may have taken its obsession with film to the next level. Forget brief cameos like The Dark Knight and others — Nokia’s concept handset, the Nokia Aeon, apparently takes center stage as the star of the recently-released Echelon Conspiracy film. Don’t worry, we’ve never heard of it either. An unreleased, unbranded device that looks remarkably like Nokia’s green full-touch concept phone is a key element of the film’s complex plot however, and it looks ridiculously slick. Sure the phone in the film packs a feature or two that you might not find in a release version, but its appearance probably means one of two things: 1) Nokia might actually be thinking of releasing the handset someday. 2) The film called for a crazy concept device that would never reach market and Nokia pitched the Aeon. While the camera wielding crew over at Computex have shown us here in North America quite a few snazzy handsets of late, this one just may take the cake. It’s not too often that you see a futuristic concept phone actually hit the production line, but if these photos are to be believed, it certainly looks like the ultrathin Nokia Aeon has gone quite a ways beyond the drawing board. Reportedly seen at Nokia’s Finnish lair, the Aeon still lacks any sort of specifications, but it’s worth a gander nonetheless. Click on for a couple more sneak peeks.
Nokia Aeon combines two touch-sensitive panels mounted on a fuel-cell power pack. Each of the panels are capable of being used independently. The touch screen displays all buttons that are virtual, so in one situation one panel could operate as the display, the other as the keypad. Nokia also establishes a new wireless standard with wibree, basically an upgraded bluetooth which would allow the Aeon to be a thin-client, farming out processing and storage.The complete phone is virtual and the panels can be used for voice calls/ sending messages and enjoying the musical experiance from any panels.
