The GS500 Cookie Plus, the new Smartphone from LG is the first of many new Cookie handsets for 2010. The handset has everything that consumers love about the Cookie and more.
The “Plus” gives data connectivity which is enhanced, 3G with HSDPA Mobile Broadband giving downloads of up to 7.2Mbps and speeds of up to 3.6 Mbps. However, HSDPA is not available in all areas. The GS500 also offers EDGE and Class 10 GPRS for data transfer. This phone is very compact weighing just 92 grammes and measuring 11 mm thick, 107 mm heigh and 52 mm wide. It comes with a 3.5 mm audio jack and speakerphone and the phone book allows you to store up to 1000 entries. Other features include a 3 inch resistive touch screen which is of high quality and supports up to 256,000 colours and 240 x 400 pixel resolution. The resistive touch screen also allows handwriting recognition. The GS500 Cookie Plus runs Flash UI which has colourful and bright graphics and lots of brightly coloured themes to choose from and is similar to the Cartoon UI of the Samsung Corby. As with the previous Cookie, the Plus is also aimed at young consumers who will appreciate the cartoon like icons and user menu.
A great new feature is the application which allows you to take a screenshot and add your own text over it and this can then be sent via MMS. There are up to 40 applications which can be accessed via Widgets on the phone. Applications include very quick access to social networking sites such as Twitter, MySpace, Bebo and facebook, which is a must with the younger audience. Offering live updates directly to your main screen. It’s intuitive layout is easy and a pleasure to use. The handset also includes a 3.2 Megapixel camera, which operates at 2048 x 1536 pixels and has video recording capability allowing the user to take video footage at QVGA quality at 12 frames per second. Multi email accounts are available and the traditional SMS and MMS messaging is also catered for. Document viewer is included enabling the user to view attachments such as PowerPoint, PDF files and Word, however, you are unable to edit the documents. The LG GS500 Cookie Plus incorporates a stereo FM radio with RDS support, a standard media player and a voice memo recorder. The GS500 offers sufficient memory, with a MicroSD memory card slot enabling memory expansion of up to 16GB, which is plenty of room for thousands of images and music tracks to be stored.
In conclusion, the LG GS500 Cookie Plus is a stylish mobile phone which offers a wide array of functionality that will appeal to the young target audience.
