Why was the pentaprism invented for SLR cameras?
I have been looking into how SLR cameras worked, and came across the roof pentaprism, and wanted to know how it worked, and why they decided to put it into cameras, and how did this make it easier for the user?
Until the pentaprism was designed, all viewfinders were “waist level” and as you moved the camera to compose, the image moved opposite the direction the camera moved, which could at the least become disorientating.
The pentaprism made an “eye level” view finder possible and corrected the reverse image movement
