I am wanting to start takning photos for children at their location. What lighting equipment should I use?

Most of the photos I will take will be indoor, in people’s homes. I was thinking of a flashgun… or a flash attached to my camera. I will be working alone and am thinking that the flashgun maybe too difficult to hold together with the camera. What do you recommend?

OK, the simple answer to your question would be to recommend you use a dedicated flash on a bracket.

However, no pro-photographer I know would turn up on a portrait shoot without at least 2 or 3 studio lights, brollies, a soft box and a selection of backdrops.

The fact that you need to ask this question is a good indication that you aren’t sufficiently experienced to be undertaking this kind of work. You need to at least have a basic knowledge of lighting before you start trying to charge money for your pictures.

Yes a professional could conjure up some nice shots with available light and a bit of fill in flash, but you clearly aren’t a professional and it shows.
