Some have complained that the video sound, while very good considering the camera’s size, tends to sound a little bit monotone. This could be a reflection of various factors like distance from the camera, background noise, number of people talking, and the types of sounds being recorded.
You can’t use the optical zoom when you’re recording video, though digital zoom is still available.
Another drawback of such a miniaturized camera system is that you’re limited to an optical zoom of only 3x. I was afraid I would miss the powerful 12x optical zoom I had gotten used to with my larger camera, but for some reason I haven’t. There are, of course, some distance shots I don’t even think to try with it, but it doesn’t seem to bother me as most of the pictures I take don’t require a powerful zoom.
The view finder, though usable, is tiny. Some find the tiny view finder a bother. Some are glad to have it.
Some users have complained about noise at ISO’s higher than ISO400 though it doesn’t noticeably worse than other compact digital cameras.
Perhaps the major problem to watch out for with the Canon PowerShot SD780IS, with any sophisticated electronic device really, is that you don’t get a “lemon”. From what I’ve read, a few people have purchased cameras didn’t work right from day one, or after they used it for less than four months. Protect yourself from this problem by purchasing your camera from a reputable supplier.

You can record beautiful high definition video and play your movies and still photos on your HDTV using the mini-HDMI connector and the images will look great even on a big screen.
The Canon PowerShot SD780IS will choose the correct settings automatically when operating in the smart auto mode and will also detect and adjust for faces. It even includes a face detection self-timer so you can set the timer and the camera will wait to detect your face before taking the picture.
