I want to film weddings for $$$?

I am a teenager who wants to buy an HD Camera. a nice one. one that may cost 6000+ dollars. (i also plan to buy a shotgun mike and a boom pole) i want to pay for this camera by filming weddings for people around the portland area. how much money do you think i could get? how do i get myself known? would people trust a teenager?

Okay, it seems that you have done your research.

Now you need to find a working wedding photographer who will be willing take you on as an assistant.

At first you will be responsible for a lot of the other part of the photo biz and that includes interaction with the guests, carrying extra equipment and mostly watching that the photographer does and how they use their equipment.

As you become more familiar with the whole process, the photographer will give you more and more responsibility and eventually he/she may hand you a camera to shoot “candid’s” during the ceremony and following reception.

This is the time where you start to build your portfolio. In a couple of years, you should have enough experience a money to buy a good used video camera and start shooting video for the photographer, using the same people to people skills you have learned while shooting still shots.

Perhaps the most difficult task you have, is learning how to edit the raw video and compile it into a DVD. Unlike still photography (when done correctly) most of the work takes place after the principle photography is shot.

Besides budgeting for your eventual HD video camera, you will have to include the post-production equipment and software.

Being a teenager gives you a good jump on your business plan, so by the time you have the education, experience and equipment, you will be in a good position to be one of the most sought after wedding videographer in your area.
